Just a quick update/recheck on those final election results:
Well, looks like Timothy Leming is still dead last. It's almost as though he gets further behind every time they recount the votes. So unfortunate.
Shades of Meg Whitman. That works out to about $3 per vote.
(For comparison, the other candidates calculate out as Filippi at $1.86 per vote, Dictos $1.42 per vote, and Laval at $1.36 per vote. And for those of you who are easily confused, no one is implying that any actual dollars were ever paid per vote by anyone. This is simple math. Campaign contributions and loan amounts divided by the number of votes received. Wonder if Laval will continue her frugal and cost-effective ways once elected? Pretty impressive.)

The Assessor's Office desperately needs a leader, not a Perpetual Candidate in the pocket of developers and wealthy farm interests.

plot sickens.
Looks like all that "incestuous" talk was just that - a tasteless sound bite intended to provoke a particular negative reaction. Word round the campfire these days is that not only is current Assistant Assessor spending his lunch with Dictos, they have crawled into bed together. Apparently Dictos plans to give the current Assistant Assessor free reign to run things as he sees fit, as Dictos plans to spend his time "crunching numbers" and collecting checks. Which begs the question - how is this any different from the last "incestuous" Assessor relationship, except that it is Dictos collecting the fat Assessor paycheck until he qualifies for retirement? (Note - I wonder if Dictos realizes that it takes five years to vest and the term is only four years? Second terms are not guaranteed.) Isn't this the same wasteful inept administration that got us into this mess? What kind of leadership is this? Besides, Dictos promised the Assistant Assessor job to Pete Filippi during the candidate debate. |

Dictos claims he wants to give back to the community. But there are many ways to give back to the community without constantly seeking public office, and we have seen absolutely no evidence of this behavior from Dictos. Is he seeking public office for money, status, or name recognition, to make contacts for future employment, or a step to a higher office? There are ways to better the community without bettering yourself with a $132K salary plus $675/month in perks. The impressive list of "endorsements" indicates at worst a narcissistic need for attention or at best that he likes to schmooze and be seen schmoozing and is hardly indicative of his qualifications. e.g. - if he is such a well-endorsed talented CPA who is filled with great ideas, why didn't he win when he ran for an office he might actually be qualified for, against Vicki Crow for Tax Collector/ Auditor-Controller? (And his inability to get along with Vicki Crow does not bode well for the office. The Tax Collector and Assessor's Offices have to work closely together, and Vicki does not respond well to bullying.) What a load of manure. this is nothing but a transparent ploy to finally attain what he's always wanted - a Public Office, a Title, and a Cushy Government Job where he can milk the schmoozing for all its worth. It's insulting enough that the Perpetual Candidate thinks he's qualified for this office based only on his many many experiences of running for many many offices varying from memorial district seats to county supervisor to auditor-controller. Can dogcatcher be far behind? |

Not surprisingly, Dictos has sought the support of developers and farmers. Not surprisingly, most of his money is coming from those sources. Both groups have a vested interest in the policies and procedures of the Assessor's Office. And by financing Dictos' campaign, will they now have a strong voice in determining those policies and procedures?
